Abalone in the community
Teamwork is at the core of all of our work
At Abalone, we’re always looking for extracurricular ways to strengthen our teams. Learning how to play together on the field makes us better on the jobs. If you’re at the Edmonton Corporate Cup, you’ll find us competing in—and winning (obviously)—a range of events.
We’re an active company. Look for us getting out and having fun at local sports fields this May and June. Some of the events we are signed up for include: team rope pull, lawn bowling, poker, scavenger hunt, ultimate frisbee, badminton, and bunnock.
Abalone made exciting progress building new relationships with the indigenous community this past year. While finding new business opportunities with the numerous bands in Alberta, we've also focused on giving back to the indigenous community.
Our goals for 2018 are to develop strong relationships with the indigenous community while ensuring we are embracing their culture, respecting their traditions and giving back to the nation.
Paul First Nation
In December, employees volunteered their time in serving Christmas dinner to the Paul First Nations in Duffield, Alberta, at their Community Feast. Abalone also sponsored the post-secondary students with grocery gift cards.
Our colours do not run, but they do blur. They can be seen speeding around regional oval tracks throughout Alberta. Abalone is a proud sponsor of Dolter Motors Sports.
Edmonton Corporate Challenge
At Abalone, we push our limits off the work site too. We stepped up our game in 2016 and joined the Edmonton Corporate Challenge for the first time. These games encourage hard work, dedication and increase company morale.
Awards and Recognition
Abalone has completed many industrial, infrastructure, land development and municipal projects over the years. Although our work speaks for itself, we’re always pleased to receive formal recognition for it. We’re proud of what we’ve built.
Alberta Roadbuilders & Heavy Construction Association (ARHCA)
Abalone Group President Randy Chalupa was Chairman of the Board for the ARHCA in 2016 and was recently awarded a plaque honoring his time on the Board of Directors from 2010 to 2017.
2015 Canadian Construction Association Infrastructure Award
Since starting the company in 1983, Terry Chalupa has shown extraordinary dedication to both Abalone and the construction industry as a whole. In 2015, he was honoured with the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) Civil Infrastructure Award for his support of industry associations, and commitment to CCA’s Civil Construction Council and other committees.
Terry continues to be an active member in many industry associations, including the CCA Road Builders Council, CCA Environment Committee and the Gold Seal Committee.
